Privacy.
chanalyse.org is a research site with no logins and no advertising. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what the site does and does not collect.
What we collect
- Article view analytics (aggregate only). When an article page is opened, it sends the article's path, the domain of the site that linked here (the referrer — e.g. "news.ycombinator.com" or "direct"), and the country Cloudflare's edge reports for the request. We store these as plain counters: total views per article, views per day site-wide, and aggregate views by referrer domain and by country — never linked to individuals. A capped "recent activity" list also keeps the last ~200 view events (article, referrer domain, country, timestamp — no IP, no identifiers).
- Rate limiting. To keep the counters and the chat from being flooded, the server briefly keeps a short-lived hash derived from your IP address and browser user-agent, in a ten-minute rolling window. The hash exists purely to limit abuse; raw IP addresses are never stored by our code.
- Standard edge logs. chanalyse.org is hosted on Cloudflare (CDN), which processes standard request logs at the edge under its own policies; we do not use them for analytics or profiling. No other third parties are involved, no advertising or tracking pixels run on this site, and chanalyse.org sets no cookies — the only browser storage used is described below.
The chat assistant
The widget in the bottom-right corner is an AI helper. Messages you type are (a) forwarded to our LLM provider (Z.AI / GLM) to generate its reply, and (b) stored as a transcript in Cloudflare's key-value store for up to 90 days for abuse monitoring and service improvement. Transcripts are keyed by a random session id that your own browser generates and keeps in localStorage — no account, name or email is attached. Chat history within a session lives in sessionStorage and disappears when the browser closes.
What we analyse — content, not people
The data chanalyse processes is public forum content: threads and posts from 4chan's /pol/, /biz/ and /g/ boards, obtained through the public 4chan API and archives. Our research monitors public discourse as a whole. It is not directed at identifying, tracking or profiling individual site visitors — or at identifying the posters behind the public threads we study.
Retention and your choices
Aggregate view counters are kept indefinitely as anonymous long-term metrics. Chat transcripts are kept up to 90 days; rate-limit hashes expire within ten minutes. Nothing personally identifying is stored, so there is nothing to export or delete per visitor — clearing this site's data in your browser removes the random session id and, with it, the link to any transcript. If you believe published content raises a concern, contact us and we will review it.
